People & Organisational Development is led by Executive Director, Christine Lloyd. Our three specialist HR Directors (HRDs) then lead key relationships with customers, each one supported by team of functional experts. This structure ensures we add value where needed and take a coordinated approach to meeting customer needs.
Our functional teams in POD are as follows:
HR Advisory team: When someone within a directorate needs assistance with their people-related strategies and objectives, it’s this department they come to. This team report directly to the HR Directors and advise on aspects of employment policies and processes. They, like the HRDs, are key in maintaining and building customer relationships and involving and working with other functional specialists.
Learning & Development: Whatever your role when you join us, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and enhance your skills, knowledge and capabilities. The Learning & Development team provide a variety of personal development opportunities designed to meet individual needs and learning preferences. These range from Senior Leadership and Management Programmes to one-day courses. Some are delivered in-house, others are provided by specialist professionals but all are relevant to our diverse organisation. Learning and Development are also responsible for driving CR-UK's Talent Management, Succession Planning and Performance & Development Review programmes.
Resourcing & Reward: This team give advice to managers on how to attract, recruit, select and retain the right people for Cancer Research UK. It’s split into the four following areas: Resourcing Programmes, Resourcing Operations, Resourcing Development and Reward & Recognition. Each team is an authority within its area, providing expertise on recruiting in bulk; advertising roles and assessing candidates; innovative recruitment methods; reward issues; and much more besides.
Pensions: Our pensions team guide employees through the financial, legal and administrative complexities of pensions. Our employee pension plans are a key part of the benefits we provide, so they have to be up-to-date, affordable and ‘fit for purpose’.
Internal Communications & Engagement: We make sure that everyone is fully informed and able to play a full and active role in our organisation. It’s here that we advise and support on how best to communicate projects and key messages to the rest of Cancer Research UK. Internal Communications and Engagement is also where our intranet is managed and the staff bulletin is produced. This team are therefore crucial not only in communicating effectively, but also in targeting communications to the correct audience.
Employee Services: This team is actually made up of five separate units which are fundamental in supporting our customers and the other functional specialists in POD. Our HR Service Centre is the first point of contact for HR queries and handles questions on a range of issues, from how much leave you’re entitled to, to family-friendly policies, as well as updating any personal details, such as a change of address. Occupational Health provide an impartial and confidential advisory service and exists to promote the highest level of physical, mental and social wellbeing at Cancer Research UK. Payroll are paramount in ensuring that everyone is paid the right amount at the right time whilst Policy work collaboratively across the organisation taking everything into account in order to formulate direction of CRUK policy. HR Systems oversee all data entry; administering and maintaining the human resources database. They also take responsibility for data distribution and management information reporting.
Organisational Development, Projects & Programmes: This team supports the development of CR-UK culture, organisational structures and processes, as well as the way people work together. In practice, this means coaching those who are leading change, acting as a sounding board to develop ideas and generally helping Cancer Research UK to do things better.
